    Most of this stuff I had lying around. My intention was to make a grill from a 55 gallon barrel with all bolt on parts so when the barrel rusts out I can just cut another barrel, bolt on the parts and go again.




    That's a nice bird house you put on top of there.

    I was able to lay my hands on some nice expanded metal - thicker grade - nicer grade and replaced the grate I cut out of the old outdoor table:




    Required an additional support in front:




    ...and in back:




    The thinner grate was starting to warp, this should work out much nicer.

    The "next gen", as I've discussed, will have the cradle plate so the barrel is bolted on and thus fully replaceable. I'm making this one for my son:



    The cradle plate I bend with a sledge hammer until it matches the curvature of a 55gal barrel, fine tune it with a five pound when I'm ready to bolt the barrel on. The plate fits between the center ribs of the barrel.
