They don't have our history or our Constitution.

    What's our excuse?

Doesn't matter. As long as we are better than communist China then we are perfect.

Our excuse is that our form of government has provided more individual freedom than any other sort of government since at least the Middle Ages. Our second excuse is that we aren't perfect human beings, nor did we set out to create a perfect society, nor do most of us claim our society is perfect, nor ever can be, unlike the Utopian Communists and Socialists EVERYWHERE. (Please note that it is the socialist elements of our society which compiled OUR human rights lists.)

Seriously, I keeping finding more ways to just hate the country my parents came from. I am thankful at every birthday that I was born in America and thank fate that my parents moved us out of Chicago and live in Indiana so I can own guns when I grew up 13 years ago.

China has labor camps forcing prisoners, both criminal and political ones to make crappy products they can export which is essentially slave labor even though they officially condemn it, no freedom of religion unless it is state approved, no gun ownership at all, their buildings are crap, they rip off technology from Japan like their trains and do a horrible job at constructing it. Hell, they rip off franchises like fast food joints and even entire Apple stores and whole companies. They make cheap copies of our military tech and some of it even got circulated back into the US.

The only time I felt sorry for China was during the short years when it was an actual a democratic Republic before the commies took over. They overthrew the old monarchy but then the nationalist and the commies came and destroy the dream and don't get me started on Mao and his ****ty revolution. In less than half of the 20th Century, China when threw 2 specific revolutions, 2 civil wars with WWII smack in between them before one final revolution afterwards.

The United Nations and the stinking hypocrisy they spew, deserve no less than to suffer the poetic irony of a coward's death.

The longer I stay in the big red country, the more reasons I find to stay.

The only thing that disturbs me is a lack of gun rights. I miss carrying a weapon.

Yep, because personal liberty is overrated....that, and everyone knows that China has no crime.

As a guest of their country, what personal liberties are being taken away from me, aside from gun ownership?

Everyone knows the US has no crime, too. What are you trying to say?

China doesn't criticize our society. Their government criticizes our government. And our government criticizes basically the rest of the world.

Of course the US is preferable to China, but another PATRIOT Act or two, some more agencies like DHS, more internet surveillance, and it will be harder to tell the difference.

Our excuse is that our form of government has provided more individual freedom than any other sort of government since at least the Middle Ages.

Provided? I think not. We are free when the government gets out of the way. I thought that's the point people here were making about the Chinese government?

When you find a free minute, head on down to Tiananmen Square and exercise some of that peaceable freedom of speech and assembly in criticizing the Chinese government.

Oh, wait. That didn't work out so well the last time.

    My bad.

You mean something along the lines of telling the difference between Romney and Obama, or between the Dick Lugar and Teddy Kennedy?

Hell the difference between Lugar and Kennedy is easy: One was a rabid partisan who stood with his party no matter what scandal shook it, and the other was a RINO Republican.

You know that short of murder, the penalty for breaking the laws of the host country ranges from a slap on the wrist, to a small fine, to deportation/extradition, right? :dunno:

This applies to all countries, not just China. The execution van doesn't drive around picking up foreigners for publically bashing the government, ffs.

I'm not sure you can blame the latest round of statism on crypto-repubs. Not with conviction, at least. The post-9/11 stuff was Red, White and Blue, and if you spoke in opposition you were a traitor. Not just a RINO.

Really? Try getting caught running drugs through Turkey; or getting caught in sodomy with another person of the same sex by the Taliban or the Saudis; or get caught selling arms in Thailand. Get caught spitting on the sidewalk in Singapore and see how they treat you. Try "fomenting revolution" on a street-corner in Beijing; you may get home eventually, but you'll spend a very uncomfortable time while the local government decides if it wants to make an example of you or not.

You're giving examples of crimes, not exercise of rights. Unless you're equating sodomy with speech. Some of these things are severely punished in the US as well, some less so.

Methinks 'fomenting revolution' could have unpleasant consequences for you in the US as well, the 1st Amendment notwithstanding.

I'm sure that those are comforting thoughts to such people as Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Joshua Fattal....when they were held by the Iranian government.
