Now we need Bruce Willis to reluctantly come out of retirement to lead a hand-picked team of [strike]losers[/strike] "specialists" with no prior near-orbit experience to land a customized space shuttle on it and blow it up with a nuke.

    and Ben Afflek.

Just a little history. Skylab reentered the atmosphere on 11 July 1979.

That was kinda my take on it. I bet all the rice on the the station got coiled in zero g. Recipe for disaster.

DUUUH!!! They are Chinese. They ate it all.

And it wasnt as uncontrolled as I eluded to in my post. (and most people unfamiliar with the project)

It was mothballed in place, with the possibility of being reused. Its orbit degraded due to excessive solar activity, and we didnt have a space shuttle ready to send up to give it a boost. So we did a controlled deorbit and splashed it down safely.

I guess bill clinton didn't give them enough info when he gave them staging data and other stuff needed to put stuff into earth orbit

Exactly, people don't quite get the possible dangers of a large uncontrolled object entering the Earth's atmosphere. It ain't like the movies where it assumed to be completely disintegrated.

And for Aerosmith to cut another lame ass love song......

It started when KISS made Beth.....From that day forth every Metal band had to do a love song and the fall of Western Civilization began...

The orbit doesn't appear to cross the US, so little risk here.

That article was pretty terrible. "Could come crashing down at any time!!!!". Hardly. If it has lost all propulsion, it is in a regular old degrading orbit. We know exactly where it is, and can predict where it will go. At just over 9 tons, it will likely break into pieces and largely burn up.

Ran in thru Purdue's Impact: Earth!
    https://www.purdue.edu/impactearth/

Won't even hit the ground. I used numbers from Wikipedia to get the size, density, and speed (the slowest the app allows is 11 km/s. My calcs show 7.5 km/s).
