I've picked up a Chinese SKS which appears to be immaculate (still had cosmoline in the gas tube, piston, bolt and firing pin). It's factory cartouche is /16|. I'm reading that only factory /26\ rifles can be dated, but when I had the first two numbers of the serial number (18031079) to 1956, 1974 appears to be reasonable because of the milled trigger housing and spike bayonet. Anyone else had luck dating a non /26\ factory model?

There is a site called SKSfiles or something like that. ChiComs are extremely hard to date as I dont think the Chinese kept those kindve records or kept them secret. Even the 26s are vague when dated.
