so does anyone know if color filling increases gun value or is it just a waste of time lol

Generally speaking, purely aesthetic modifications are a matter of personal preference, so performing them with the intent to sell may well narrow the market. I.E, polishing the barrel on a glock may make it more difficult to sell and actually reduce the value.

Color fill is such a trivial and easy to do/undo mod that it will likely have zero effect on value.

I recently got a g19 with the letters filled in white. First thing I did was grab a toothpick and nail polish remover. It was harder to get off than I though. If you really like the look then go for it, but I don't care for it and it will NOT increase the value imo.

This is why I went with some hobby paint. All I've got to do is put a tiny bit of thinner on, wipe it down, then wipe it down with some hoppes and its all gone.

If it was hard to remove, then you were using the wrong solvent. I painted mine with Testor's hobby paint and nail polish remover won't even touch it. Neither will gun solvent. You need to use acrylic paint remover, in which case it comes right off with a cotton ball. It's literally five minutes' work to remove completely to sell or change the color.

Crayon sucks. It's hard to remove, and as soon as the slide heats up it just makes a waxy mess all over the place.

I highly doubt it adds value and for me personally it's usually a turn off if a gun i'm debating on buying or trading for has it done. To me it just looks gaudy. But that's just my :twocents:

That's why I use wax. Heat it up and apply with a crayon. It's "self removing" in hot weather, but that let's me try a new color!

This is like people who put chrome tailgate latches and door handles on their vehicles. Why do people want to draw attention to the most unsightly parts of an item?

Made in Turkey. Pat. Pend. 12548970112, is not something I care about emphasizing on an otherwise aesthetically pleasing firearm.

I have always been told that it will if anything decrease the value. That being said it didn't stop me from pulling out some enamel model paint and toying around with an 870 this past weekend painting the recessed lettering. It is practice for my M&P. It will be painted shortly after i get it this weekend most likely. My issue has been trying to track down some stencils I can use for the bottom of my mags.

I'm not sure how it could possibly decrease the value when it takes literally five minutes to clean it off if you don't like it. It's not like you're engraving it.
