Somebody chrome plated it.

Anybody know of a local shop that can remove chrome without damaging the steel?

try here:www.armorhyde.com not local as theyre in Louisville,KY but they do have a FFL to recieve firearms for coating. They do an OUTSTANDING job and are very well priced!

Sadly, this wasn't all that uncommon of a thing for those separating service / retirees to do.

It's one of those "If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have done it differently" type situations.

Have one in the same condition ,was told by Bellarmor that they would remove the nickle before parkerizing, not sure how

The plating can be reversed. I'm not looking to media blast, buff, or polish anything. I just want to get the chrome off and parkerize it.

Gotta love the old 1911 Government models! IF you strip it or leave it alone it's a super pistol!
