Colt AR question

I have had this Colt for several years. Production year is 1997. IT IS STAMPED "223". I have read in a few different places that Colt rifles chambered in 223 were capable of safely firing 5.56 also. 5.56 ammo seems to be a little cheaper. Is the rifle safe with 5.56?

If "5.56" is listed in the specs, I would think it to be safe!

You're good to go. My M2 is stamped the same way with .223 listed first and .556 later. Rifle is good for .556

Your good to go. I have the same model you have. My barrel is marked 5.56/223.
