I'm very partial to my Colt Officer's Model. However, they may be somewhat hard to find. Mine is by D&L Sports, Dave Lauck, gunsmith. Works well. I would also reiterate the need to change recoil springs frequently depending on use, and I always use Wilson Combat magazines.

I like the Colt Combat Commander in 45, the wife likes it in 9mm. But if you work on the Kimber enough it will do in a pinch.

Best I have ever owned and carried. I can honestly say that when I whip this baby out at the range everyone tries to buy it from me and wants to shoot it.

I own both officer sized and government sized, and honestly, I prefer to carry the full size gun. Plus one in the mag, and a little easier to shoot. As far as carry goes, its not that much heavier, and the size difference is not so much that the bigger gun is honestly any more difficult to conceal (at least for me).

I used to have a Kimber Compact Stainless, which I liked a lot but ended up letting go of after I bought a DW CCO. That is a really good EDC 1911.

So do you think the DW is worth the price over the Kimber ?

I do. I paid $900 for my Kimber and then put $60 into replacing rubber grips, $40 into a non-plastic MSH and $110 into night sights. Then I watched the silver paint chip away from the aluminum frame until I couldn’t stand it anymore, so I bead blasted the frame. I also put a flat wire recoil spring into it and it was a fantastic shooter. It looked the part too.

With my DW CCO, I only needed to put ammo into it. I paid $1100 and despite it being well shot, it still looks new. I replaced the grips eventually but only because I came across a set of nice VZs cheap.

While not really a 1911, you might consider tracking down a Star PD. They're like a 1911 and a Browning Hi Power had a baby. Order some extra buffers for it and you're in business. I love mine.
