This one has supposedly just been waiting for a President that would like legislation. Now they have one.Has any Congress in recent history passed landmark legislation within its first couple months in session?
60? I'm pretty sure it only takes a majority to pass a bill in the Senate. Unless you are assuming a filibuster on every bill. From what I've read, they can even end those with only a simple majority without using the "nuclear" option. The unfortunate reality is any bill making its way to the President's desk needs to get 60 votes in the Senate first...and the current makeup is 52 Republicans, 46 Democrats, and 2 Independents that caucus with Democrats.
Any legislation needs 8 "cross-overs".
This is to say nothing about getting through the House and a GOP whose unity is fractured by the Freedom Caucus.
Dude. You might be on to something.A few years ago I wanted to understand INGOtarianism better so I read all the comic books of L. Neil Smith and I now understand INGOtarianism.
Did you read the article I posted?Yes, 60 votes will be required in the Senate as Democrats are certain to obstruct the GOP agenda, in much the same way the GOP worked to obstruct the Democrats' agenda over the last 8 years.
Could Republicans go "nuclear"? Sure, Reid did it and turnaround is fair play, right? Problem with that is each successive swap of majority party will lead the Senate further and further down the path of marginalizing the minority party...which while good for "winning" isn't IMO good for the country as a whole and looks really damn bad if your ideology is the minority party.
