One of the guys I work with is going there to be a part of the D-Day reenactment next weekend.. I was wondering if anyone from here is going? He said next year is the 75th anniversary of D-day and should be interesting to see what will show up.
It involves 2000 re-enactors and about 40,000 spectators. It is free (however, donations are appreciated), and well worth the drive. Just do a search for "D-Day Ohio" to see past years activities. Lots of period vehicles, and original fighters and bombers strafe the beaches. There is a tank battle on the beach on Friday (three German tanks and two armored cars against seven US tanks plus halftracks). The main battles are on Saturday. The spectators are on a hillside looking down on the beach landings, and almost at eye level to the aircraft. Lots of vendors selling stuff too.
