Fresh can of stove black in the spring, good as new. Did you buy it to use? Or buy it to look at?
Like any tool, it will show scars from honest use. Anything you use to cook on is gonna get greasy eventually. Concerned it might actually (gasp) show some use, use the kitchen range to cook on. If you need it in an emergency, how it ends up looking is not going to be a concern..

You are absolutely on point here. Followed by everyone else's suggestion of stove black and I think we have a solution.

    What say you OG?

I like the idea of cast iron trivets and stove polish. I'm not so worried about me scaring the surface while I'm cooking, more worried about all of my 'helpers' who are a bit more aggressive at stirring the pot and moving it around on the surface. Have already got the water pot for the humidifier. :)

Can't find a max temp for those things. The surface of the stove has to be in the 500 - 600* range I'd think.

If I run ours up that hot we have to open some window's.......:)

These have gone down in price a lot. Less than half of what I paid a year ago:

    Digital Laser Infrared IR Thermometer

I still use the high end piece that was one of the 1st really good pro hand helds. It was $300 when I bought it.
That one you listed is dirt cheap. They have really come down in price.
