This can be a great tool! While the odds of my suggestion working are low, I suggest trying this-ask for permission to search, and get the suspect to sign a consent form, or get it on video. Absent that, either an inventory search subsequent to arrest (vehicles), or paper the car/whatever it is you want to see inside!

Fourth Amendment, much like the Tenth, is slowly having its last breaths of life choked out of it.

It uses backscatter technology, the same as the TSA airport body scanners. If you look at the video, you can see that it can penetrate vehicles and doesn't require any thermal data to work.

Indeed so. The most obvious source of trouble here is that pesky 'plain sight' exception. I can understand not needing a warrant if I get stopped with an uncovered bale of MJ in the back of my pickup truck. Peering through keyholes, putting snot-prints on my windows trying to peek through a crack in the Venetian blinds, things that a normal person not wanting arrested for voyeurism would not do are unacceptable. Now, watch out! No more peeping required, EVERYTHING is in 'plain sight'. These devices should be prohibited from all persons regardless of employment (.gov or otherwise) more severely than kiddie porn.
