it's called backcountry navigator and basically replaces your garmin, magellan, etc. GPS. you can download topo maps for your area and save them to your sd card, the bonus is you don't have to have a cell signal to use it. they have a free demo version and the unlimited for $10.

There's a cabelas app that does basically the same thing. I think it's $4.99. Its more geared toward hunting with some of the stuff on it, but it's prettty neat. It makes you show up as a dot on an overlay of a google earth map. At least that's what it looks like to me.

I don't need one I was just pointing out it was not actually for a smartphone as it is only for the droid.

I have found the compass in the iPhone to be inaccurate and if I need to navigate through the woods I have a compass and a GPS if I need them.
