A little more info on counterfeits

Knife collecting has been around for hundreds of years and is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. It's a wonderful hobby...but just like many things, there can be a few bad apples in the bunch. Unfortunately there are knife sellers/dealers that are unscrupulous and will try to take advantage of you. There are some very good counterfeits out there...so good that it can be very hard to detect when looking at the knife in person....which makes it even harder to detect when trying to buy on the Internet. Some counterfeiters are so skilled that the knives that they work on will continue to fool even the most experienced collectors and dealers. However, the vast majority of counterfeits are junk that almost anyone can learn to detect. Always try and know who your dealing with. When in doubt about something....always ask questions. A good dealer/seller will always have a straight up answer and will not beat around the bush in answering your questions. Do your homework before buying is the most important thing you can do. When buying a new knife, Know the box or packaging that the knife is suppose to come with. A lot of counterfeits can be identified by the packaging/boxes....misspelled words, wrong colors....ect. This last piece of advise is really hard to explain.....you can get a feeling that something is not right when handling a counterfeit knife ....the fit and finish just does not feel or look right...something about the knife is just wrong. Finally, if there is any doubt in your mind, get a second opinion. Ask someone you trust if there is anything that you are not certain about.
    I hope this helps.

the fakes are everywhere. and sometimes they are impossible to tell apart, on looks. the fake emersons are probly some of the best. alot of other brands are just too easy to see it......

price is a great indicator. and if you are shopping ebay, look at the sellers other items, and that will usually tell you all you need to know.

be careful out there! only deal with people who have GOOD reputations. only deal with WELL RESPECTED dealers (like brad) and don't use "google shopping" to find the best price.

I disagree with that, I have found great deals using google, especially on some of the forum classifieds. However if the one you are looking at is priced at 10% of retail then guess what...

You do need to know some basics about what you are buying...do your homework and use a little common sense.
