Just picked up a CVA 44mag Scout. Would like some feed back as to what is a good(accurate) factory load for these rifles, so I don't have to spend a small fortune testing ammo. For deer hunting.

Avoid fiochi ammo. Shot ok but bullets disintegrated when I hit a large buck in the front shoulder. Maybe the bullets were too fragile for the extra velocity generated by a rifle length barrel.

Also on my H&R The scope base came loose after shooting the first time. Put a little locktight on there and they have been good sence then.

I was wondering what would be a good factory load for deer. I have a H&R. Has anyone used the Buffalo Bore 44mag deer grenade?

I've used 300 grain hornady xtp's with good results. I prefer a heavier slower bullet for pass throughs over lighter ones.

Range Report: Seems to like the Hornady 240 xtp. Had a little trouble getting groups, got it home and saw that the scope had been moving forward in the rings from the recoil. Will get some friction tape in the rings and try again.
