I will soon be purchasing a CZ 550 varmit kevlar .308. My question is would you lose anything by shortening the barrel to 18"-20" ? I'm not looking for a 800 yard rifle more of a under 400 yard / hunting rifle. Any comments would be appreciated.
I would shorten it also. Like others said you wont lose much besides a few fps and huge barrel. The positives outway the negatives in my book any day.'I bet that it will shoot good.
I'd go to 20" as well. I have a Remy 700 PSS 308 with 26" and an SPS with a 20" tube and I can't tell much difference in accuracy. I'm not an operator though so a better shot might be able to tell a difference. I love my 527 Target/Varmint in 223.
No problems at all at 400 yds. I have a Savage 10 PC in .308 that has a 20" barrel. It's about a 36" drop at 400 yards with a 100 yard zero (168gr FGMM).
