Adult males into Anime are weird. :stickpoke:

(Cue outrage post by Haven in 3... 2... 1... )

Haha, that's the thing though... much like TV, movies, books... there are sub-genres.

Abundance of choice within each... kids anime is very different from young adult anime... which is very different from adult anime. There's some gritty, dark **** in anime. The only difference from an American drama show is... it's animated. Big deal, so is South Park.

I'd love to come up with a list of good "entry level" shows... things that are as big as "Cowboy Bebop" would probably be good... it's a space opera, very western feel to it... created by the legendary Shinichiro Watanabe. It was made in the late 90s, has incredible music, and a dark... serious story with plenty of gunplay and depth.

There are others that are just psychological horror... things definitely not for kids. Also some great mystery shows out there, just tons of good dramas all-around. Just have to get over the fact that... A. It's animated... and B. It may not always be available in English.

It's just such an odd generalization.

    It's a medium, a platform.

Calling someone a music enthusiast, sport enthusiast, car enthusiast, movie enthusiast, book enthusiast.... would probably never be said about someone as though it applied to the situation.

Man, that Adam Lanza kid... I heard he was a real magazine enthusiast. Probably why he killed the kids.

Yeah, and some of the sickest, weirdest, kinkiest things I have seen in the interwebz are anime. I guess porn is pretty much illegal in Japan. But cartoons dont fall under that law. So they just draw the weird sex stuff. And man, there are some messed up folks. I'm no prude, but damn, no thank you.

And I had to post that just to give Haven a hard time.

    Dang.
Now I have to revise my training regimen.

You're fine. By lurking here and posting occasional sarcasm, you've at least doubled your combat effectiveness.
Good thing the shooter didn't know the depths of INGO or there'd have been a real problem.

"Occasional sarcasm". Yup. I have to work on that. I think I can do better than "occasional".

"Ghost in the shell", "Attack on Titan" and "Knights of Sidonia" are all good.

I'm watching "One Punch Man" currently.

My title should be "Admiral General Emperor" if that is correct.

    Exactly.

So my 12 year old G-daughter is already an accomplished artist with some serious skills for her age. Her favorite style is Anime. So what. We love her drawings in this style.

Not sure how this is relevant.

You just made my point CM (see the bold);)
Nothing wrong with it at all.
Seriously im just giving some **** to any of you guys that like it. I like a lot of weird **** myself and im pretty ****ing weird and proud, so I cant judge nobody else.

However I do believe certain influences on young minds can alter their reality and influence them towards violence. Violent video games for example for a child too early to comprehend what is real and what is not.
Ill give an example. My 5 year old started talking to me about how a real life animal would do such n such and spawn and stuff. I said where did you hear that? He said minecraft. I explained that it is not real life. He couldnt comprehend what I was saying. Easy fix, no more minecraft.

That sounds pretty normal to me. A 5 year old doesn’t comprehend real life anything very well. If you read your kid a fantasy story and they start integrating elements of the story in with their understanding of “real life” and I’d say that’s probably a normal kid. So then do you say, okay, no more fantasy books?

There is “age appropriate” content concerns. Is Minecraft evil because you think your child believes it’s like real life? No, but it may not be age appropriate. It’s rated for 7 and up, presumably because it has mobs that might be scary for some younger children. But, with supervision, in peaceful mode, it’s just a virtual world where just about everything is square. It’s not going to make a child who has no propensity for violence to become violent. But it might make them like to act out things they do while playing it, much like your child might want to act out things you read to him from a storybook.

Back on topic, I guess the Anime thing is something to make fun of, but I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with the shooting.
