I am sure the Mouse would say Dan Wesson, I believe there is an article out there that list the mim parts in various manufacturers.

Are your choices based on the desire for a rail?

Honestly do not think you would be displeased with either.

I have both. I like both.
since CZ bought DW the quality is up and obviously so.
yes the TRP is filled with MIM and many here would argue it is as good as the forged parts but they are just wrong. That is an upgrade I always do when I acquire a Springer. Not something that is do or die as the MIM will live a long life for you but I have set my personal bar.
I still want a full railed TRP bull barrel Tactical but they seem to be very scarce.

I will put in another vote for the Specialist , as other have said Dan Wesson does not use mim parts at not that much more of an expensive price point. That and this is a personal thing but I HATE the 20LPI checkering on the TRP it's like a cheese grater for my hands.

Side note , why is Springfield Armory so stupid with their 1911's?! The Vickers gun looks great they even put a tool steel hammer in it , but the sear is still MIM. That makes no sense to me at all.

Every nickel/dime adds up in the end my friend. That tool steel will wear on the MIM piece over the long haul but the reality here is most people will never put more than a few mags a year through those guns if that. I know we are different and actually beat on ours but I know Soooooo many guys that safe queen these as to resale value. Pretty stupid in my eyes and hey.....tough up man.

I'm a DW fan! The Specialist Commander in the bead-blast finish has been on my "want" list for a while now, so you can imagine which way my vote goes. I haven't been able to find one and ended up going with the DW TCP as I wanted a railed 1911 that I could mount a weapon light to. Love the TCP with the bull barrel and it's such a soft and accurate shooter, but sort of wish I had waited for a Specialist to come along. Stoopid pandemic. Stoopid 2020. Stoopid politicians.

The way I see it, sure, you'll spend a little extra $$ for the DW. Or you could go another route and sink twice (or more) of the price difference into tweaking and upgrading your other choice to make it as good as the DW is out of the gate.

To each their own, but I am with you seems a shame to not enjoy something.

If you are interested, looks like Marksman in Westfield just bought several high end used 1911s. I have not stopped by to see (above my pay grade) but there is a Les Baer, Wilson Combat, a couple of Volkmanns and others. No pricing listed but pictures on their FB page.

edited cause I made a boo boo.

I did not realize until the other day that DW have an out of spec mainspring housing pin location. i was looking at some mainspring housings on the Stan Chen page and he had both kinds.

Fourth gen MIM is getting closer to as good as steel and I have a newer MIM gun that I am testing currently. For the casual gun owner who will not shoot tens of thousands rounds a year the MIM is working fine. Not sure but DW may be a cast frame but CM might know. Springer is forged steel. Again not important to the light duty gun.

Always thought the A2 from DW was a good clean slabside. Too bad they discontinued them.

For a production gun Dan Wesson gives the most bang for the buck. I have a Valkyrie in 9mm and a Guardian in 38 Super. The fit and finish on both is excellent and both are extremely reliable and accurate. I had a Classic VBob in all stainless but it was just too heavy compared to the alloy frames guns.
I think I’ve only owned one or maybe two SA pistols in my life and I don’t recall any issues with them. I know they make some interesting models but I’ll stick to the DW line or Colt if I need another 1911 based gun.
Now that CZ has bought Colt my 3 favorite lines will be under one umbrella.
