My buddy has a 870 and I am amazed by how balanced that thing is, but before I drop 300+ I want to make sure that I am getting the best for that 300+.

I agree with the Handi Rifle. I bought mine in 500 S&W and it has been a deer slayer. Simple, tough and not expensive. You might go with the 44 mag like mentioned, this 500 S&W ammo is not cheap.

My preference would be a shotgun rather than a rifle. Anyone ever shot a Winchester 1300? Thoughts?

A Win 1300 is a completely serviceable shotgun.

Could also consider the Maverick 88... They're quite inexpensive; especially on the used market.

I had an 870 that I shot pheasant, ducks and deer with...as well as trap. It is one sweet shotgun. I wish I still had it.

I say you buy the brand new H&R 20 gauge Ultra Slug hunter I have in the classifieds. Bought it from feedback on here and other sites stating it could reach grouping like a rifle out to 150 yards.

I actually have an 870 I plan on using so no need for two guns. It has been my go to gun for everything..just swap out the barrel.

I was looking at the H&R heavy barrel slug gun at Gander. I was wanting a 12 gauge though. Might do a 20 if the set up and price is right.

20g is far better for deer hunting, a 20g shoots much flatter and kills just the same.

Folks to over think weapon and deer hunting, deer are very easy animals to kill once you've pulled the trigger.

I appreciate the offer on the 20 gauge and I know that it a good shooting gun, but I can't spend that much on a single shot.

If you perfer shotguns then Mossberg and Remington make great deer guns. I personally perfer Mossberg because thats what I grew up using and I am used to the feel. I currently own both and hunt with both. I just grab the one that looks good on that particular day. Most everything when it comes to hunting guns is personal preferance, you really just need to get out thier and see which one you like best. You can find good deals on both. I would recommend posting something on here under the Want to Buy classifieds when you have a feel for what you like.

Wanting to buy a deer gun

PM me if anyone has a nice pump or semi-auto Remington, Winchester or Mossberg that they are wanting to sell. I am going to use this for deer hunting so I perfer to have a rifled barrel.

I may also do a heavy barrel single shot with scope, but it would have to be a killer deal.

Again, I am shopping around so send me the best deals that you have.

    Thanks
    Eric

if you looking for a shoot gun, i would go with either a 870 wingmaster or a remington 1100 very nice guns. I hunt with a marlin .357 mag or a .44 mag depending on my mood both great rifles

I shoot an 12ga. 870 Express Magnum with 2 3/4" Coppersolids and accuracy can't hardly be beat.

Dad shoots a 12ga. Marlin 512 Slugmaster, same Coppersolids, and shoots just as well as mine does.

Both great deer guns, but my 870 has the advantage of being able to throw a 28" barrel with interchangeable chokes on and go for squirrel, ducks, doves, short barrel for HD, whatever...
