I've got a job at a power plant where no firearms are allowed no more than a 4" knife as well. Does anyone have a link for the exact dhs rules for power plants non-nuclear? This job is 81 miles from home leaving me unprotected for three hours a day. If SHTF 81 miles could easily be three or four days of walking.

I have a bag with food, lifestraw, socks, underwear, tp and first aid. My I'm just walking through here don't want no trouble sks is not there and that's what makes me sad. I have a nice longbow that I could take (pending dhs rules) the arrows are iffy in my head. I want to read and print an exact copy of the dhs rules to have with me to show any guards/cops that search my vehicle.

I work on federal property and have the same rules. I am fortunate enough to only work 5 miles from home. There was a woman caught with a gun in her car and was fired. She contacted a group that was going to make trouble, and she got her job back. Go figure.

i would fin a private spot a couple miles from your facility and create a cache. even if you just take a .30 cal ammo can and spray it with some paint to break up the all green, and then cover it with some burlap that matches the surrounding area, put a lock on it.

or even if there is a drainage type ditch nearby with a metal pipe, permanently attach a strong magnet to the box and some 550 cord and throw it into the pipe and then inconspicuously tie off the pull end. theres lots of ideas on your own im sure you could come up with. especially since you know the area. good luck.

Interesting discussion, I thought that something was passed that allowed a weapon in your auto while at work (506)?

A ashe is something people don't think about most often, I like the ideas..

unless prevented by law or its a govt facility etc. i think power plants and such fall under the exemption and therefore you cannot carry there and be protected from being fired. I dont think its illegal there though to have it in your car at least. there is no way i would drive that far without a weapon.

I work for a utility company at a powerplant, same rules apply. No firearms or ammo on company property and it's ALL company property, not just the generating stations. Luckily my drive to work is 15 min and if I had to walk it would be too bad too do. But if I were you I'd do what other said, look for a spot you can stash a GHB and some supplies if needed.

Any site that has a DHS designation is exempt from any State law. All powerhouses, nuclear or conventional, oil refineries, petroleum storage facilities, hazardous waste collection sites, pharmaceutical manufacture and R&D facilities are among those that I know for sure that get the DHS tag. Having worked all of these in construction let's me find out all these neat rules.

Just so you know, it is a Federal firearms crime if caught. By driving on site you give them permission to search. If a vehicle is unlocked they will search before they come get you. If a dog gives them a hit and its locked they will come get you to unlock for the search. You can deny the search, be escorted off, and a lifetime ban from working any Federal job or DHS protected site.

As said, if you want to carry, park offsite, ride a bike on and off property.

background check at most and mandatory **** tests. I was working at Lilly's downtown during 9-11 and January 2002 they announced background checks for all. The laws seem to have gotten tighter and tighter as time goes on. Any terrorist that wanted to blow up any of the places I've worked at could easily overpower the septuagenarian guards.

What trade are you? Steamfitter here.

Yes I've done the Lilly background checks, nothing compared to a nuke. Got my TWIC card which is a DHS background check which makes you good for a few years, kind of like a passport for INSIDE the country

Knowing the problems I pointed out at two powerplants in the state, if you park outside the gate, you will be fine. The gentlemen in charge of security I had the experience to meet were clueless and I am being kind!

Powerhouses have always been a no gun zone any way. Stout powerhouse and Perry K, both in Indy, have Federal postings in break rooms and common areas defining what is not allowed on property. National safety and all. Even have the old "No Communist Party Member" postings still up on the walls.

I'm going with a storage facility if ones in the area. Weapons cache has the potential of being stumbled upon by some idiot who will find free sh*t. Then when SHTF you're out of luck anyhow.

Just curios do these dogs smell the guns or gun oil or ammo? I really don't know.

 Truth, who knows. But when they hit you get called out to either open it up or pack up and leave and never come back.

Refineries I've been at they say they hit on gunpowder, :n00b: with all the petroleum smells in the air they can pick out gunpowder in a locked, closed up vehicle. Yeah Right.

I have been lucky, the times I have been called out the vehicle was clean. Those clean times weren't very often.

To the OP, if you're working where I think you are, SW corner of state, there are probably more inside the fence than outside.
