There are about as many variations of the 10/22 as there are stars in the sky. Any large company, or one that just orders the minimum amount, can have a "special edition" made to their specs. Longer barrel, special stock, sights, special color, but underneath it is a good old 10/22.

My favorite version is the old finger groove sporter. Wish somebody made that stock again
    :(

    Yes it is

The 10/22RR is the adult version of the compact. 20" barrel and fiber optic sights are nice but not necessary.

The fingergroove walnut stocks are very nice indeed. It is where Hogue got their design from. Pretty close match but with the rubber coating. The fingergroove is getting very hard to find with all of the original equipment still on it. They are also getting very pricey for the collectors.

I've never actually seen a 10/22 that isn't the carbine. What difference does 1.5" make?

    Nothing really

The longer barrel really doesn't do much. Ruger has produced factory barrels in 16.5, 18.5, 20 and 22 inches. .22 ammo has reached max speed with a 16 to 18inch barrel.

I had one. decent but not mint. Pop's .44 finger groove is in super good shape. I can see it (.44) fetching a fair amount, but not the 10/22. Collector or not, it's still just a 10/22 ;)

    Fingergroove stock

The fingergroove stock alone is bringing over $200 most of the time and the whole period correct gun with the right magazine(There is a difference) is going for about 450 to 550 depending on serial number and shape
