I just picked up a Mossberg 500ATP from a guy i work with. Wondering if any one Knows why it has a front blade sight instead of a bead sight, And its doesn't have the checkering like most 500s with wood furniture.
It was Mossberg's military and police shotgun before the 590 was created. The wood is finished in a dull sheen to appeal to the military and police and the forearm has cut rings into it instead of the stamped checkering. It did sell to the police in small quantities, but never really took off with the military due to not being parkerized. Hence the 590...
I own one and like it... I think it looks nicer than a traditional 500A!
