DNR Uses Math, Not Magic, To Set County Bonus Antlerless Quotas....

County Bonus Anterless Deer Quotas | Indiana Hunting & Trapping Guide | eRegulations.com

A special late antlerless season introduced last year in high quota counties contributed more than 10,000 deer to the total 2012 harvest and was a contributing factor in 18 counties receiving lower quotas this year, including five whose quotas were dropped from 4 to 3.
“That’s certainly the trend we’re seeing,” Stewart said. “I can see a time in the future, with the new seasons we have, that 8s start to go away.”

Just remember it is math not magic. Scary thing is Mr Stewart keeps getting quoted as saying the population is nearly where we want it. Don't about other parts of the state but here in the northeast deer are few and far between.

I believe the Insurance Companies and the Farmer Groups set the bag limits...After working as a guide in Pike County Illinois for 3 years, I would tell my buddies in Indiana that compared to Pike County, Il our deer in Indiana are effectually extinct. On a good day in Illinois, I could see more deer in one day than I could see all year home in Indiana. Example: one day in gun season 3 hunters, on one large Illinois farm saw 156 deer in one afternoon hunt. Another time on opening day one of my hunters passed 17 bucks one morning.

Probably told the Indians that they were killing as many buffalo as possible to help the herd also.

I did a quick comparison between the number of county permits issued between the 2012 season and the present 2013 season. I don't know about you all, but it sure seems that DNR is ahead of the game in reducing bonus permits.

There are 14 counties that had a reduction from an 8 to a 4.

    They are:

    Lake
    LaPorte
    Elkhart
    LaGrange
    Steuben
    Noble
    Kosciusko
    White
    Madison
    Putnam
    Morgan
    Scott
    Allen
    Huntington

    There are 5 counties that had a reduction from a 4 to a 3

    Whitley
    Posey
    Warrick
    Perry
    Greene

    There was 1 county that had a reduction from a 4 to a 2

    Benton

    Addition -

There was 1 county that went from a 4 to an 8

    Ripley

    There was 1 county that went from a 3 to a 4

    Henry

Sure looks like a lot of reducing versus just a couple increases...
