General consensus is keep them full and treated with Sta-Bil.
So I have a 5000 watt Coleman with a 5 gal tank and just picked up a Generac GP6500 watt with a 7 gal tank.
Also have five 5 gal fuel cans. So I will treat 37 gallons today and move on.
    Thanks for the advice.

    Interesting last couple of days.
Had a few tornadoes pass through between Dad and I, fairly neatly bisecting Jay county. No damage, but he hasn't had power since roughly 1:30 yesterday afternoon.
Early yesterday evening I drove up, got a 3kw generac unit from out by the camper, chained it to the flagpole, and ran an extension cord into the house.
It's easier to do that than to try to patch into the wiring just yet.
The tank on the unit is only about one gallon, so there's a 3 hour limit.

I called him a little before 9 this morning and asked if power was back on, and he said no.
Well, shoot. There goes all of my day off household chores stuff. LOL
Back on my horse and up to his house I go, talking to a certain buxom brunette as I drive, and thinking "Gee, if only I had something like a boat gas tank..." when what to my wondering eyes should appear, but TWO boat gas tanks, one plastic, one steel. A short conversation and an exchange of some useless green paper later, I've got them both!
Pop needed some staples, so I drove him into Hartford for cat litter and wine. You know, staples. A quick stop at the hardware yielded a hose barb and some quarter inch line.
Once back to the house it literally fell together. The darn hose actually primed itself and started flowing when I grabbed it. The project worked well, and turned a three hour genny into an 18 hour genny for under ten bucks. Life is good.
Blooper reel: I did have to come back all the way from Muncie because some idiot, unfamiliar with boat gas tanks, didn't know to unscrew the manual vent in the gas cap. Don't forget that.

My 3KW Generac is a 3 gallon tank. I must have hit the lotto...:):

I keep the tank full and shut off the fuel to the carb to let it run dry. I also have a 300 gallon gas tank at the house for the tractors.

I bet THAT'S pretty handy when the grid takes a poop. Gee, I wonder if the average non farmer Joe could store back some gas for when it's difficult to get? Hmmm...

Not sure if you were "Purple" but yes. We have fuel stashed everywhere.
Not enough in the long haul thing but if rationed properly it would be enough.

Full tanks. Stabil or Sea Foam in the gas. Bi- monthly run them for 5 minutes with no load to stabilize the electrics then under load for 15 minutes. I use shop vacs and leaf blowers to warm up the windings. Remove the load, continue to run for 5 minutes and then turn of the gas to dry the carbs.

Oil changes every 20 hours per the manual.

Does anyone have a vehicle with standard 110V outlets in it? How much power can it produce?

It varies by vehicle. My brother in law's truck is 100 watts continuous 175 peak. All of the ones in our new ambulances in the dash are 75 watts continuous 100 peak. In the back of the rig, it says 15 amp max. The one I had installed in my Explorer is 400 watts continuous, 600 peak.
