I ordered a Daniel Defense yesterday from Cabelas, I also picked up a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24. It came with flip up covers, I know they are good for protection, just curious how many use them and how many don’t?
The bolt action .223 has them along with a sun shade. The .22 that is scoped no.
I put the sunshade on the .223 because I took it prairie doggin in South Dakota
I don't use them. I have those covers that have the rubber cups tethered to each other with an elastic string. I keep those on when in storage or transport. Once I get to shooting, I toss them in my case.
I don't care for extra "stuff" hanging on my optics.
I use the same things gregkl uses and slip them in my pocket when I get into stands or blinds. Too much chance of getting something poked into the lens while moving in the dark.
I don't use scope covers.
Gun in case during transport.
Afield it's look at my target and bring the gun up to my line of sight.
Don't want crap above/or off to the side of my scope.
Have run sunshades on varmint rigs, no probs.
To/from stand in the dark.........gun is in hand or over shoulder.
I'm not hunting in a barbed wire fence recycle center.
