My wife shot a doe with her 357 Max Encore. I was really happy with the performance of the Hornady 180 SSP. Double lung shot doe ran about 40 yards. This firearm has been a blast to shoot and very accurate.

Great job on the doe! If you don't mind me asking...

    - what was the approx yardage on the shot?
    - where do you get your brass or ammo?

I have a H&R 258 Handy Rifle in .357mag, thinking about reaming it to max.

    Thanks.

The shot was estimated at 60 yards, a chip shot for this gun. I reload using AA1680, Hornady 180 SSP, and Remington brass from Plainfield Shooting Supply.

Captpaul, glad to see your wife got a deer. She seems mighty pleased, and rightly so. :)

Also, that is a winning combination of powder, bullet, and brass. The Remington brass that I use is very uniform. I once tried some Jamison brass when Remington was not available. Jamison's quality control was terrible! I use small rifle primers in my reloads due to probably somewhat higher pressures than factory .357 Magnum loads.

That's awesome that you can share the outdoors and hunting with your wife. I wish I could get mine out with me.

I'm just curious, but is there really that much advantage to using an odd caliber like that instead of a regular 357mag or 44mag that's more common? I'm watching for a good deal on a enacore 44mag barrel so I can setup a scoped 44mag to use the same ammo as my puma 92 44mag. I hear the stories of these other calibers and I never really understand the benefit of them. Is it just to have something a little different/special? If so I get that, but otherwise I'm probably just going to stay with a boring 44mag.
