Science of Dogs has a great collection of then and now photos of various dog breeds, showing how breeding for aesthetics have affected their health. Daily Mail has turned some of these into animated gifs.

I wonder the extent to which this has been done with humans...

Saw that last week. One of the major reasons I'd never have a German Shepherd. Overbred and prone to sickness dysplasia. Ditto for most of the other breeds on there, too. It's a damned shame what American breeders have done to the Rhodesian Ridgeback. They all look like death camp survivors they're so thin.
