I was driving down US 36 Saturday and a Tri-Axle was in front of me. He had a load of fill dirt and hit a bump in the road and out came a huge chunk...not sure if it hit the road and bounced or hit directly but it shattered my windshield. I followed the guy and got his contact info and who he worked for, McGill Transport and DOT #. He said he would give boss my info and have him call me. I never heard from them so I called them today, told the lady who owns it what happened and her first response was we are not responsible, if we paid every claim that said we broke their window we would be out of business. So I then asked why they have tarps if they are not gonna use them? She said tarps don't always stop rocks....and I said well they damn sure can't when you are not using them. She then said she owns 2 trucking companies and has 100's of people who claim she breaks their windows......and I then told her if my business got that many people saying I broke their window every year....I would at least try to take 5 minutes and put the tarp over to not be negligent.
I'll be honest. I could care less about the $250-260 it will cost me....but for her to tell me she wasnt responsible kind of pisses me off. What the hell gives these guys the right to drive around with uncovered loads, damage your property and not be responsible?
