Im still fairly new to ARs, im an AK guy. This is my second build. I duracoated this rifle and this was my first time taking off the dust cover from an upper. I did it with no issue, and put it back on fairly easy despite that horrible little C clamp lol. My issue im having is the dust cover now refuses to stay closed. It keeps popping open when i cry and close it. Did i put the spring on wrong? i don't think its the duracoat even thou it closed just find before hand. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Only thing I see is the orientation of the spring ends. When I replaced my dust cover, the video showed installing the short end to the left (facing up), start the shaft through halfway and give the long end a half turn so it faces down against the cover and finish pushing the shaft through. Mine works fine so I must have done it right.

Not sure. This was the first time I ever replaced my dust cover and everything came out fine. From your photo that is the only thing I see differently from mine. Couldn't hurt to try it and find out since it's only a 5 minutes chore. :)

How thick is the duracoat film? You've got duracoat on the surface where the dust cover needs to close against, which would take up some amount of 'slop' that the ball detent needs to be able to engage in the scallop. If you also have coating in the inside surface of the scallop, that might also contribute to the detent not being able to fully engage.

Yes, your spring is on backwards. But my money is on echo's analysis.
