Not that I agree the state ought to be in the "charity" business but if you find yourself in a point in life where you feel the need to avail yourself of the taxpayers' largess and if your basic needs are satisfied and you still have money left over for purchasing guns, adult entertainment, alcoholic beverages, and such, I'm thinking there's room for some belt tightening.

I'm with you 100% on this.

Ok,turn off the 'p***ed off taxpayer' and turn on the 'pro-gun' for just a minute and look at this. Here we have an anti-gun politician advocating the purchase of firearms(an item the government doesn't like people to have) with EBT(GOVERNMENT money).I love it.

I can see his point though.Self defense is a God-given right, for the rich and the poor.I'd donate money (if I had any) to see that a young family, who is most likely living in a less-than-lovely neighborhood due to their being on welfare,is adequately protected.Granted there are abusers to that system just as there are to any other one but don't punish all for the mistakes of few, right?

Now back to your regularly-scheduled 'p***ed off taxpayer' comments.

ETA:If you squint right,he looks like Ben Franklin, just saying...

the real issue here is that this democrat wants to allow the ebt card holder to buy booze, adult entertainment and guns. He is an anti-gun liberal, but he knows his voters are idiots, and they wanna use ebt to buy this kind of stuff, so its not about guns, its not about anything other than a liberal who has zero morals, saying and doing anything for the votes regardless of what is right or wrong. they do whatever will get them votes, they will kill babies, allow lazy people to buy booze and guns and strippers, it doesnt matter, its all about keeping the base.

Agree with all of the stuff regarding proper use of taxpayer funds, but... a democrat from the Northeast going on record saying it is ok with him if people buy guns. Pretty strong evidence that we are winning regardless of the circumstances! He puts guns in the same category as booze, etc. so he is hardly a pro-gun guy, but it is significant that he is conceding that the government has no business trying to stop people from buying them. Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.

Call me silly, but aren't food stamps supposed to be used for food? I know, extreme conservative thinking here. I just think someone is getting a little too much on their food stamps if they have enough left over to purchase a firearm. But why stop there, let's go after "the pursuit of happiness" so EBT should be accepted at Brothels!

Since they are going to get the money anyway, and the amount will most likely NEVER be trimmed back, I really don't care what it is spent on.

No use in getting a blood pressure spike off of it.

Facepalm #1) EBT assistance is for food. That's it. Food.

Facepalm #2) Ridiculous statements like this make the whole system seem ridiculous...even if its never adopted.

Facepalm #3) The people who will suffer the most are women with children who actually need the food...but will be pressured by others in their lives to buy porn and hi points.

What. A. <insert any number of phrases here that would likely get me banned> with a cherry on top.

Taxpayers money illegally and forcibly taken from them and given to "entitled" persons to buy booze, cigarettes, drugs, hookers, porn and guns? Have they finally lost it? I'm pro-gun, but I have enough money stolen from my paycheck already. If the .gov thinks they should have a firearm then maybe they can use the guns from evidence lockers instead of destroying them. EBT should be used for staples of life (bread, flour, beans, PB, rice and generic branded fruits/vegetables). EBT users shouldn't be eatng steak and shrimp while I pay for it and can only afford Ramen Noodles for myself.

    ^^ This ^^ :+1:

Assistance should only be the province of the private sector, through charitable efforts. But, as we have this 'system', it should be carefully and closely monitored, and every penny accurately accounted for. Can't account $50 this month? That's $50 less next month. Convicted of a crime, either payment forfeited for those months, or kicked off, depending on the circumstances. NO new '$50,000' cars while on the dole, either.

Staples only. No booze, tobacco, firearms, chips & snacks, soda, steaks, prime rib, shrimp, lobster (remember 'Beach Dude'?), non-assigned and prescribed drugs, etc. The objective is NOT to make them 'comfortable' or to 'feel good'. It's to 'strongly encourage' them to use public assistance for as short a time as absolutely possible.

Felony prosecution AND restitution (scumbag scammer ain't gettin' no jail commissary for a while!) for all who are caught misusing funds. Mandatory random drug testing, mandatory monthly oversight and monthly accountability of every cent. Every item of every purchase approved at the point of sale (not all that difficult with a card). Monthly work or work training, designed solely toward getting people off the government teat as rapidly as possible.

Harsh? 'Humiliating'? Good, get off the government dole.

repped! I can only add that mandatory drug testing would, I imagine, free up enough funds to fund drug testing without a raise in the budget.
