Engraved my own lowers

I found an engraver on CL a few weeks ago, ordered a few cutters and today tried engraving my lowers.

It is an engravograph. Looks like it was manufactured in the 50's or 60's. Using carbide cutters.

Why did you engrave a cat on your gun?
I suppose it's safer than engraving a gun on your cat but still.....

My understanding is that as long as all the other markings are there, assuming that lower was purchased as a completed lower from an original manufacturer, then yes.

I set the engraver for 4 thou depth. Not sure there is any way to accurately check how deep the engraving is?

It depends on who does it. I have a friend that does laser engraving, and he makes MULTIPLE passes so that the engraving is deep enough for the BATFE.

FYI, Todd does great work, especially for just starting at it. If he gets this up and going, don't hesitate to run your stuff over to him. We desperately need someone in the Evansville area that does this stuff. I'll post pics when I get my barrel back from the gunsmith. Good guy and a good product. Hopefully I can get some more form 1s in soon!

Damn, that looks great. I did all mine with a hand engraver on the underside of the magwell bevel. Not pretty but it works.

yeah, not true...
