Build a Nice AR for less...

I just bought this last month and I should have bought 2 when I had the money.
    1. Buy your completed Upper. $399.95
    R Guns Complete M4 5.56/.223 Upper Half
Since this is the most important piece that touches your rounds, a little extra is worth it. This is a solidly built upper that includes a bolt carrier group and charging handle. Buying a completed upper means that you don't have to mess with putting the barrel on(a pain).

    2. Buy your stripped lower. $59.95
Surplus Arms & Ammo LOW15 Stripped AR Lower Receiver
This is a multi-caliber lower thats fits every AR mag that I can find.

    3. Lower parts kit $57.95
Stainless Steel Lower Parts Kit for AR Receivers
This will do the job until you get the $$ to buy a drop-in trigger housing.
Very easy to assemble. You will need a few punches(I used a very small nail) and a hammer(plastic/rubber prefered)

    4. Stock $49.97
ARR-067 - AR-15 M4 Carbine Six Position Stock OD Green UTG Complete Assembly
This can be Black or OD Green. (I bought the one from AIM Surplus, but they are out of them at the moment.)

    5. Rear sight $29.95
UTG Removable AR15/M16 adjustable Rear Sight
This sight will give you the accuracy that you need and also be tall enough to line a red dot sight through.

    Total $597.77
    Shipping $9.95

Ultimately, you can do what you want, but this is the best deal that I've found for the money.
    Good Luck!

screw spikes because they are slow as hell right now and it might take you a year to get your dang rifle. buy the REGULAR Smith & Wesson M&P15 and never look back. dont buy a sport because you'll probly look back and wish you bought a regular AR down the road. The quality of the M&P15 is like a colt for less money. buy it love it, have no regrets. one of the finest AR's I have ever owned.

If you pick up a stripped lower somewhere and order a complete kit from Del-Ton, you will have less than $600 in your rifle. I have two that are from Del-Ton and have zero issues. Plus I spent less for two rifles than one of the "top shelf" guns.

Brownell's has some good videos on assembly as well as the ones that have already been posted. It isn't difficult to build them. Especially if you purchase a complete upper.

My brother built his AR for just shy under $700 after shipping and everything. It is not one of the cheap ones as he went with some more chromed line fittings and such to help with corrosion and such. I put about 300 rounds through it and its a CHAMP! Build yours, your be more happy that you did. There are lots of reference material out there, a lot of good stuff already in this thread. Also you can check out some gun shows for some parts as well. Every show I've been to has had at least 10 vendors with Uppers, Lowers, Stocks, and much much more for your AR. You'll be happier building your own and having exactly what you want, and also the knowledge that you can build MORE

Kieslers had Rock River Arms stripped lowers on sale for $119 a couple weeks ago, they have everything to put one together also. I'm pretty close to you so if you want to go that route let me know and I will help you put the lower together. I've put 7 or 8 together now I think and have everything that's needed tool wise. If I remember correctly my brother spent about $250 on his lower parts down there, all Rock River.

Following my previous instructions, I put together a lower for 1/2 the price and it shoots better than my buddy's RockRiver and his DPMS.
I don't put too much stock in a name unless its my own.

That's nice! I don't care about names either really but I like to buy my stuff in person. Thats just me I guess. Whichever way you go I do agree building one can be cheaper.

It really doesn't matter what stripped lower you use, as long as it's in-spec. Pick the logo you want to look at when you go shooting since that's what will make you smile (and of course the shooting part too).

I picked up an M&P sport last weekend. I have a few ARs but figured one more couldnt hurt. I like my colt but as far as a beginners AR the sport is the way to go. It shoots great and is really accurate. If your ever near the Muncie/Anderson area you are more than welcome to stop by and shoot mine.
