One prediction is that when Obama gets back in office, his employees at the US EPA will unleash pentup rules aimed at the power industry - namely coal so be prepeared to shell out more and more dollars for your energy. A number of sources have already switched from coal to natural gas due to uncertainty with the the regulatory agenda. Natural gas should be conserved for home and light industrial use while coal should be used by the utilities. The utilites have an enormous appetite for fuel and they are efficient in burning coal.
The air in the United States has never been cleaner than it is now. The utilites have made great strides in pollution control. A number of the power plants are using western coal in order to meet sulfur dioxide rules. The EPA's Cross State Air Transport rule are based on number of studies thathave shown that the emissions form power plants cause a number of excess deaths, increased morbidity anoung the young and the old, etc. A number of these studies are conducted bt the same people who bought you global warming. It seems that the EPA's logic is that if you can detect it or measure it, it must be bad and we will prove it that it is indeed bad.
Given the current regulatory climate, if I had an option to build a large industrial manufacturing facility in the US or overseas, I would opt to build it out of the US. There needs to be a moratorium on all environmental rules. If Obama is relected, be prepared for additional questionable rules and increased costs.
