Hey guys, I am looking to build a scout rifle and one of the things I need to do is shorten the barrel of my Savage. I would also like it to be threaded for a flash hider and later a sound suppressor. Where is good and how much should I expect to pay? I don't mind paying for quality work I just want to know I am not getting ripped off. If it is too much then I won't waste it on an old factory barrel and I will probably just buy a new barrel, which I may do anyway. So I figured on eof you guys would know of a reputable place near Evansville that can cut a barrel and thread it for a decent price.

heck yeah, if you're in Evansville, give Tim a shot. he does excellent work. I've got one of his .30 cal stainless cans and it's very nice!

I've lived in the Evansville area my entire life and never knew about this business. I've been wanting to dabble in suppressed fire for some time now. Never have seen it in action in person yet. I'll look into this place.

Without hesitation I would recommend Geoff Corn, in Oakland City. Not only does he build amazingly accurate rifles, but he does great work.

But, he is moving his business to Colorado in August, so keep that in mind.

I have also heard good things about both SAS and Mr. Corn.

If they are backed up, I had Gander Mtn chop and re-crown a Marlin 336 and they did a good job. I think it was like $40.00 but I am not sure. It was part of a larger project for a cowboy assault rifle.
