I'd vote for the non-stacked leather handle.

I've had/used an Estwing rock pick for work. The shellac / coating over the leather gets beaten up easily. It cracks, flakes, splinters, and looks horrible. Not to mention the slim possibility of that substance working its way into your skin.

    A holler in Kentucky
I have an Estwing framing hammer that Bought at least 25 years ago, and used it everyday up until 7 years ago when I got out of the building business. Best hammer I ever owned, and still going strong.

These look interesting , think i'll stop at lowe's and see if they have any . Thanks for the info smokingman

They don't even have an ITEM # from Estwing yet. Seriously doubt you'll find one for sale anywhere - especially at Lowe's.

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I've had 2 of the long handle axes. One got accidently left under my lake for a year (long story, not involving boating accidents) and it rusted to hell. I just broke it when the handle broke where the neck attaches to the handle which is hollow. Good quality for the money but not the best on the market.

I can't find anywhere what kind of steel that Estwing uses...

That may or may not make a difference in such a tool as the tomahawk above.

I can't tell from the pics...

Think these 'hawks are one piece of steel - or is the head fitted onto the handle?

    I hope so! :D

The little "scallop" just down-handle from the head kind of made me wonder a bit if it wasn't press fitted / heat fitted on there. :n00b:

    From the website.
"The lightweight design makes it easy to carry and with Estwing’s Shock Reduction Grip for comfort and durability. Black Eagle tools are perfectly balanced and weighted, and made to last. American forged in one piece out of genuine American steel."
