The bad news is that Executive orders do have the force of law. The good news is the Executive Orders typically need to have pending legislation or clear delegation of power to him to give them the force of law.

Given that the majority of the gun control measures the President has been pushing were defeated in the Senate, it is doubtful that a gun control executive order would slide through without SIGNIFICANT challenging by Congress. It may even give them grounds to start Impeachment hearings if he tried it. It would also likely get fast tracked to the Supreme Court for a hearing on any orders Constitutionality. At least as of right now, the Supreme Court has typically ruled in favor of the 2A and probably wouldn't back him up. Of course that could all change if the justices change due to retiring / appointments by Obama.

only thing he can do with it is enforce current laws...but you're right, that a highway to impeachment. Com'on Obama, go ahead and sign that executive order! :naughty:

Obummer and the Dems need to be careful here. They have been overreaching on gun control measures, exploiting tragedies and those who survive them to further their own agendas. Barry will soon be a lame duck President and midterm elections are coming. They all remember what happened in 1994.

I understand your position and agree with it, BUT... would Congress really challenge it; seems to be an easy way for Congress to go along and say "I didn't vote for it".

Honestly i hope he tries it. Maybe then the zombies that blindly suckle upon his teet will finaly wake up and see him for the dictator he is trying to be. He is NOT for America. His ideals are obviously socialist/Marxist/communistic in nature through and through.

Not meaning to sound like my tinfoil hat size is 7 3/8, but wasn't the order for ICE not to uphold the law not an Executive Order? How many billion rounds of HP do agencies under the Executive Branch have?? Who will uphold the law when those sworn to, are intentionally operating outside the law?

How about an executive order that the Attorney General prosecute every felon caught with a gun?

    http://www.justice.gov/usao/ut/psn/documents/guncard.pdf

Oh wait, that would get felons off the street and reduce crime!
You can't get gun controls laws passed if you reduce crime.
Uh... Doug, could you clear up something for me?
    VI. KNOWINGLY POSSESS OR MANUFACTURE:
    18 USC § 922 (k), (o) & (v); 26 USC § 5861. Punishable by up to 5 or 10 years imprisonment, depending upon specific violation.

    [...]

    F. Semi-automatic assault weapon manufactured after October 1, 1993; OR
    G. Any firearm which lacks a serial number or contains an altered or obliterated serial number.
When was the last time that card was updated? It's totally legal to manufacture for one's own personal use a so-called assault-weapon since 1993 which lacks a serial number.

Gee, I don't know when it was updated. I just did a search for "federal gun laws."
I guess I shouldn't expect the Justice Department to take down outdated information.
Maybe "felon in possession of a firearm" is no longer against the law.:dunno:

Maybe all prosecutions were canceled because the A.G. would have to indicted as an accessory.

Thanks for pointing out the error.

Careful what you wish for, my friend. We "fired" Clinton with impeachment. He went on like nothing happened and actually got more popular with his public.

It could be argued that Clinton actually changed the view of sex in America. A generation of impressionable youth learned that sex was only the act of making babies. Everything else was not sex, thus OK to play around with as one wished without repercussion.

    We didn't "fire" Clinton.

He was impeached but that doesn't mean he was convicted. So, in effect, he wasn't "impeached".

The reason he got so popular was because most people could see that the real reason he was brought up on impeachment proceedings is because the republicans were trying to throw everything at him that they could (no matter how trivial) & hope that something stuck. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on which side you were on) nothing did stick except the lying under oath charge (for which he was disbarred but not "impeached").

Seeing what has happened the first term, do any of you really think obama will be impeached? Does anyone really think that obama will be stopped at anything he wants to do? no one has stopped anything he has wanted to do yet, when congress doesnt do what he wants, he just writes it, and no one stops him. Obamacare, NDAA, and all the other crap he has done has gotten through with no problems. There is no one in gov't that will stand up to him, we have already seen this. it will take more than rand paul to stop whats coming. Obamacare is law, NDAA is law, another 5 trillion will be added to our debt, taxes will go up, and they will take our guns, this is not only proven in history, the blatantly admit that they will stop at nothing to do what they want. And every year, more and more democrats are created by the horrible economy, by gov't assistance, more radical media, the cycle is just getting worse. i honestly do not see anything changing for the better.
