Because, as Doug pointed out, truly random crime is the really scary kind for people who are not involved in criminal enterprises and who live quiet, peaceful lives. If we can put together a motive for the crime that is foreign to our lifestyle, we can relax.

As Doug also pointed out, that is a comforting fantasy. "Condition Yellow"- good point.

Criminals are ambush hunters and as such I also do not believe in true random attacks (for the most part) as they get to choose the person, time, and place. Yes, the criminal might not know the victim, but it doesn't make it random, it makes it a calculated attack on the perceived easy prey. This also puts us "prey" at a severe disadvantage in being able to defend oneself. The best we can do is be vigilant in observing our surroundings and prepared to upset an ambush criminals ooda (to buy us a slim about of time to respond).

This is good news. Props to the LEOs on this case, sounds like three big cases just closed.
According to sources, the suspect involved in the Monday afternoon SWAT standoff was charged for the murder of an elderly Zionsville man in September. He is also linked to the two shootings at IMPD headquarters this month.

    good news.

On a related note, if Juan Williams and Ron Perlman had a child together, it would look a lot like that guy in the background of the video

They were interviewing the POS's aunt and stepfather on WTHR just a little while ago. "He just had a moment." was the explanation the aunt gave for why he fired on police when they came to serve the warrant. And of course the obligatory, "He's not that kind of kid. He would never do something like that." Nevermind that they have DNA evidence, a fingerprint and handwriting analysis that all indicate it was him. Oh and he has an arrest record for armed robbery in Ohio (that's where they got the link for the DNA). He was also recently arrested for pointing a rifle at his girlfriend right here in Indy. They also have some notes written by him that said he wanted to kill some people. But he's not that kind of kid... No, really... "You can ask the po-leeece!" (quote from the stepfather). Sorry, but it sure looks like he is exactly that kind of kid.

Wilcoxson made several Facebook posts under the alias "Frank Lucas," investigators say. He used "unique terminology of 'Yehuah' and 'Yeshuah,'" and posted pictures of black men carrying assault rifles behind text calling for social justice and retribution. These statements mirrored language found in letters at the shooting scenes.

The notes said such things as "Whites will droop and gone drop at any time of the day." Court documents show there were overt threats to Caucasian women and children. "Whites must die," one note read.

I wonder what his motivations were?

I'm visiting with my mother today, the gentleman murdered in zionsville was a classmate of moms.
Small country town school with only 7 graduating that year.

Im the meantime let's just keep up the policy of catch and release.

Because "in some neighborhoods its easier to get a gun than to get a book." Its called the Law of Supply and Demand; if there is no demand, there is very little supply; a high demand results in a large supply.

Uh........theft. How many LGS have been hit just recently.
    Home break ins etc.
