Too many to name...... I like metal, alternative and classic rock.... And not the kind of screaming (pissed off cookie monster) metal.... I like music with a melody whether it be a great guitar arrangement or a talented singer.....

    Badfinger.

That was way before your time. There is still no band's music that interests me as much. Two of the four members are now dead. Both, very tragically, took there own lives.

    YES
    Rush
    Zep
    Doors
    Floyd
    Hendrix
    Styx
    Kansas
    Nugent
    Yardbirds
    Zevon
    Velvet Underground
    Clash
    Cash
    Hank Sr.
    Flatt & Scruggs
    Waylon jennings
    Merle Haggard

Lots of others I've missed, but take those and work your way up to the stuff that's popular with your age group. You'll find lots of stuff in between that your buddies have no idea about, but will appreciate.

Started playing bass 24 years ago at the age of 15 because I thought Geddy Lee (Rush) and Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) kicked a** and took names. I didn't know at the time how challenging their music was. As I progressed, I discovered TOOL. Politically and philosophically I wouldn't p*ss on them if they were on fire, but their musical genius is beyond reproach. They're one of the ultimate musician's bands and are to this day my hands down favorite.

Hooky's list looks remarkably like my playlist on Rhapsody (add Mark Knopfler /Dire Straits)

Rush would be #1 on that list for me.

Speaking of musician's bands - Dream Theater has to fall into that area as well.
