This could get interesting. I am always finding more and more people quoting exactly what I want to say. Here are two of my favorites:

Gun bans don't disarm criminals, gun bans attract them.
    Walter Mondale

The police can't stop an intruder, mugger, or stalker from hurting you. They can pursue him only after he has hurt or killed you. Protecting yourself from harm is your responsibility, and you are far less likely to be hurt in a neighborhood of gun owners than in one of disarmed citizens – even if you don't own a gun yourself.
    Harry Browne

"I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it."
    - Clint Eastwood

"On every occasion [of Constitutional interpretation] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying [to force] what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, [instead let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed."

All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted.
    - Frank Herbert

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."
    - Alexander Tyler

"Democracy demands that little men should not take big ones too seriously; it dies when it is full of little men who think they are big themselves."
    C.S. Lewis

"The great object is, that every man be armed." - Patrick Henry

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.... " - Patrick Henry

We are tired of this trifleing with the Constitution and laws which were handed to us by our fore fathers.
    - William Clark Allen, Company K, 72nd Indiana Volunteers, February 8, 1863

I know its cliché, but guns don’t kill people. If they do, then my nine iron sucks at golf.

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future" - Adolph Hitler 1935

6 million can attest to how well this worked out

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.

I was trying to remember the exact text of this Thomas Jefferson quote then here it is.
Most gun owners know what he was talking about. He's speaking of true freedom and how it can only exist only as long as gun ownership exists.

    Good stuff.

When you've had enough, and just can't take anymore, grab your rifle and let the World know. But if you look around and you're the only lunatic standing on his porch with a gun sreaming, go back inside, its not time yet.

I first saw this quote on a different web page but I have seen a few paraphrased examples here on INGO. I'd say I'm pretty close to grabbing my AK...

"Get off of my lawn!" - Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino

Not my favorite Eastwood movie (actually pretty disappointed in the production and the acting), but the line works for me. Oh, it helps to have an M1 Garand in your hand while your saying it with an old gravely voice. :D

    Rules of Gunfighting

    Rules of Gunfighting

    1. Forget about knives, bats and fists. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns. Bring four times the ammunition you think you could ever need.

    2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammunition is cheap - life is expensive. If you shoot inside, buckshot is your friend. A new wall is cheap - funerals are expensive

    3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

    4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

    5. Move away from your attacker and go to cover. Distance is your friend. (Bulletproof cover and diagonal or lateral movement are preferred.)

    6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a semi or full-automatic long gun and a friend with a long gun.

    7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

    8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running. Yell "Fire!" Why "Fire"? Cops will come with the Fire Department, sirens often scare off the bad guys, or at least cause then to lose concentration and will.... and who is going to summon help if you yell "Intruder," "Glock" or "Winchester?"

    9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun.

    10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

    11. Stretch the rules. Always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

    12. Have a plan.

    13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work. "No battle plan ever survives 10 seconds past first contact with an enemy."

    14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible, but remember, sheetrock walls and the like stop nothing but your pulse when bullets tear through them.

    15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

    16. Don't drop your guard.

    17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees. Practice reloading one-handed and off-hand shooting. That's how you live if hit in your "good" side.

    18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. Smiles, frowns and other facial expressions don't (In God we trust. Everyone else keep your hands where I can see them.)

    19. Decide NOW to always be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

    20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

    21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet if necessary, because they may want to kill you.

    22. Be courteous to everyone, overly friendly to no one.

    23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

    24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

    25. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket." At a practice session, throw you gun into the mud, then make sure it still works. You can clean it later.

    26. Practice shooting in the dark, with someone shouting at you, when out of breath, etc.

    27. Regardless of whether justified of not, you will feel sad about killing another human being. It is better to be sad than to be room temperature.

    28. The only thing you EVER say afterwards is, "He said he was going to kill me. I believed him. I'm sorry, Officer, but I'm very upset now. I can't say anything more. Please speak with my attorney."
