My wife and I toured the FBI building in Castleton on Tuesday. Pretty neat place, lot’s to see. Our tax dollars have been well spent! No onsite firing range however which surprised me. FBI field agents are definitely a cut above the norm. Only the top 10% need apply after graduation from college and 3 years work experience post grad. 1% of the applicants make the cut and go on to Quantico for school. Pretty elite club!

I atumbled onto that Place one day. Kinda creeped me out as it seemed like a rather large and ostentatious building for the FBI. At least outside of Arlington. I envision small field offices like ours in regular office buildings.

i guess we are the big city now. :dunno:

They used to be downtown in the Federal building with other tenants. Not too secure being spread out over such a public space. The decision was made in 1998 to build and it took until 2011 to get the thing done. The street is named after the only Indiana agent to be killed in the line of duty. "Nelson B. Klein" Parkway. He was killed while pulling over a bank robber who crossed over from Ohio into Indiana. The guy was put to death here in Indiana after conviction.

I worked on that building while it was under construction. It was known at the "Professional office building" as we couldn't tell anyone it was the FBI building. We also couldn't have blueprints off site or any digital files. Had to pass a background check and get cleared to get on site, and if you didn't get pre-screened you had to have an escort (not that kind) with you while they checked your background. It was a pain in the butt for everyone involved.

We had to go through the background check just to be in the building. Took about 2 weeks. Still had to wear a neck lanyard/badge that was lettered in red "ESCORT REQUIRED" Believe me, we did not see anything out of the norm or anything we were not supposed to see. Still, the visit was fun and the history of the FBI very informative.

I have known two FBI agents. One left his weapon in the dunny and got reprimanded. I don't know how he ever got in, as he was an unctuous political animal. The other one used to leave his ordure on the toilet seats at work.

I'm sure they're not typical, but I feel safer somehow knowing they're not posted in Indy.

My building is across the street from that building. I can see their logo through the office windows when the leaves are off the trees. One day this week a column of cars was going in with a mobile command center bus thing in the rear. Looked expensive.

One of those buildings seems to be a big parking garage; guess thats where their fancy vehicles are stored because I never see them outside. Also surprised to hear there is not a below ground shooting range. Figured it would have been built in to the hill the compound sits on facing Costco.

Ah interesting trivia. Wondered where that name came from.

I see the Jimmy Johns car waiting in line to go in from time to time. Freaky fast gets slowed down!
