I haven't seen this article posted yet, but an interesting take on the feds big ammo purchases.

I find it hard to believe that anything that the government would buy would affect the supply of 22 ammunition. Yet, that is the ammunition that seems to be completely gone. I see various pistol ammunition available; I see shotgun ammunition available; I see some high-power ammo available. So, what is the explanation for 22 ammo?

I have also heard that 22 rifles are the most common guns in public hands. Surely the public doesn't think they are going to protect much with a 22.

22lr is selling out because it is cheaper to shoot. Given the increased ammo prices I believe people are buying the 22lr just to supplement the costs. IMO

I watched over 330 cases of 3,250 rounds each sell out on SG yesterday for $300 each in less than five minutes. Yeah at 9 cents a round (good federal stuff btw) over 1 million rounds were sold in under 5 minutes, limit 1 case per customer......

I would venture to say that the ammo manufactures may have scaled back on making 22 so that they could retool and make other more in demand calibers.
