I was having dinner with a friend the other evening and he related an incident that he had going through the TSA checkin for a flight. The person in front of him had a handgun in his carry on and he presented a permit of some sort (allegedly a federal firearms permit). When questioned about why he had the permit, he indicated that he worked in the oil industry. There were also 2 other individuals boarding with the same permits. They passed through without further incident.

This is the first time that I have heard of such a permit. Is anyone aware of such a broad permit? And if so, what are the qualifications for getting one?

If there is such a thing, it's as elusive as the sasquatch.
Would figure that if there were such a thing Big Oil would be one of the first to get it.
    But I doubt it.

Seriously though, there's no such thing.

Pretty much this from my understanding.

Could be that the guy was LEO or retired LEO and planning on utilizing the carry privileges of LEOSA at his destination.

FAMs don't have any special permits other than their ID / Badge.

I doubt that they were Air Marshall's. I'm sure that they wouldn't put 3 Air Marshall's on one flight to Mexico.

If there's one, there are at least two...on small domestic flights.

International flights, if there are any, there are 2+.

And they can all shoot. Very very very very well.

we ALL have one of these. It's called the 2nd Amendment.
