Excuse my ignorance, but I thought that there was a law preventing the federal government from maintaining a list of gun owners. I understand there is a list of people who are prevented from owning firearms for various reasons, but this appears to be quite different. The "Rap Back" database that they are talking about appears to be a listing of people who are around children on a frequent basis, presumably to quickly flag them if they commit a crime and/or harm a kid.

I also thought there was a law against the federal government supplying guns to criminals to use to kill law officers and other citizens.

There are. But when the DOJ are criminals, it won't be enforced. I was wondering if there was actually a law on the books regarding a gun owner registry as that might be grounds for a lawsuit and injunction to stop what they are trying to do in Hawaii. I did some searches, but failed to find anything relevant. If there is no such law, I'm actually kinda shocked that the Democrat-run states/cities/agencies/neighbors/etc. haven't simply handed over such lists long ago.

Someone will challange it. It will go before the Supreme Court. It will either be struck down (most likely) or excepted as constitutional and set a pressitence. That would be a game changer. I can't see this getting excepted.

For what reason would it be struck down? If may be distasteful, but I don't see it as violating any rights.

The Firearm Owners’ Protection Act of 1986 (FOPA) is a United States federal law that revised many provisions of the Gun Control Act of 1968. As such, FOPA makes it illegal for the national government or any state in the country to keep any sort of database or registry that ties firearms directly to their owner.

Once big media gets a copy of the list they'll out every gun owner and what they have on the internet. No putting that genie back in the bottle, even if they do lose in court down the road.

I've been going round and round with folks who are all fired up over this. I ask, "Did you submit forms to the government asking permission to lawfully carry a handgun?" They're all fired up over lists and databases yet they carry a card around in their pocket, issued by the gubment, that says, "Hey, I have a gun."

I'm against lists and stuff too. I fancy myself a bad@$$ III%er and all that jazz... but I still filled out the forms and I still submit a 4473 every time I buy from the shop.

Anyone who thinks they're not on a list is nuts. I agree we need to make the political fight against giving authority to keep lists and registration but all this talk about, "What I'd do if they tried that here" is just smoke.
