FFL Transfer - Sales Tax?

Does the shop where you pick up a FFL transfer have to collect sales tax on the firearm? Thanks!

Or maybe talk to them, they may just have a misunderstanding of the tax codes.

We don't charge sales tax, as it is a "service" and that is not taxable.

If the transfer dealer does not collect it you are supposed to report it on your state income tax form. Most dealers just don't collect tax on the internet sale, so it is up to you the buyer to report it and pay it.

Copy, I misread that, we don't do that at all. That is the buyers responsibility, and I have never seen or read where the tax should be collected, but I am not tax expert.

I have had around 15 guns transferred in for me in the last year and i will have to get right on the tax bill it totally slipped my mind.

Not to mention, how would the FFL know what to charge for tax? 75% of the time I have no clue what the buyer paid. The only time I do know is if they put a receipt in with their FFL copy that goes to me.

Also said above, a transfer is a "service", therefore, not (yet) taxable in IN.

I pay $25 for the service & that includes the phone call for the back ground check
