This may not be the best spot so please move if you would like. I finally got my security department to give me a straight answer on this policy. I am happy right now but they way it was worded in the email kind of makes me mad. Its like they are trying to get the law changed so I cant carry to work. Please read and tell me what you think.

For now we follow Indiana state law which allows hand guns to be stored in a vehicle while parked in one of our lots. The gun must be locked and out of site. Hopefully soon they will exempt DoD contractors from following the law.

I assume you don't work on a millitary base? I know guns in a car on bases is a big no no...

Personally I would keep my mouth shut and just keep in in the car out of site..... The law is what it is and if you were fired I am sure you or anyone could sue with ease but I am not a lawyer..... If you keep your mouth shute and nobody sees it then how would they ever find out?

The only problem with suing is that you would have to PROVE that having a gun in your car is the reason you were fired!!!

No I do not work on a military base. I have never told anyone that I carry at work other then Grizhicks but he works right by me. I have carried for 8 years here now without a problem but I just wanted to see what they thought about the new rule.

So the Department of DEFENSE don't like the law that prevents them from firing you for having your self DEFENSE weapon on the way to and from work?

What an idiotic stance on the issue. I will never understand the thinking behind such a position. I'm fortunate to work for the company I work for, even though the owner has very left leaning opinions about things, he lives in teddy bear and rainbow land, and if something doesn't follow his line of thinking, he just pretends it doesn't exist. I can't imagine working under such oppressive conditions as being denied the right to protect myself. As has already been stated in this thread, I'd just keep it to myself, and go on about my business.

JB, think of all the restrictions for a soldier to have a firearm on a military base.

The soldiers have access to some jaw-dropping equipment in the field but aren't allowed to carry a simple .22 on a base without escorts and such.
