Firearms split into Handguns/Long Guns?

I might have suggested this before, but has this been considered?

I think it would benefit the seller, and the buyer both. For example, if I am looking for a handgun, I have to scroll through all the long guns too. On the other hand, if they were split, then the Seller would not get bumped down the list as quick as well.

The volume has gotten pretty heavy. A split may be justified, IMHO.

Right now the classifieds forum has one section for firearms titled "Firearms"

Our classifieds is incredibly busy. Would you like to see the "Firearms" forum broken up into

"Handguns" and "Long Guns"

My only problems with splitting it are:

1) Once we start splitting up subforums, where do we stop? Soon enough, folks will ask that Handguns be split into "Pistols" and "Revolvers," or Long Guns be split into "Rifles" and "Shotguns". One could also make the case (fairly convincingly, at that!) that "Parts & Accessories" is WAY too broad, and needs to be split into (optics, gun parts, gear, etc - take your pick). It always starts with good intentions, but it's a slippery slope that ends with INGO looking something like GlockTalk...

2) Where would firearms that aren't handguns OR long guns get put? Class 3 stuff, for example (machine gun, AOW, silencer, etc)? Or stripped lower receivers (which could be built into either a handgun or a long gun)?

I'm not necessarily AGAINST a split, I'm just saying it needs to be thought all the way through.

Sure, it could go overboard if you guys let it, but I think this instance it is for a justifiable reason.

That would mean more work for the Mods policing the ads to make sure the titles are correct...

Not really.....if you mismark your classified then it just is not searchable. Your loss not their responsibility.

I like it the way it is. I know it gets busy, but it's easy to just browse through all the gun classifieds and see what peaks my interest. I do browse without a specific item in mind to buy though, so I know my way may not work for everyone.

...but then it would be my loss as the buyer as well, being unable to find an ad that is just what I may be looking for.

Splitting it up simplifies that.

It would keep the item from being bumped off the page as frequently.



The only issue is with people grouping different items together into 1 ad.

Could we split handguns into 2 sub-sections? "Over $650 Glocks" and "Reasonably Priced Glocks"? Oh wait...there wouldn't be enough reasonably priced ones to justify it. Never mind...
