I'm behind a bit. About 60 yards or so with my much maligned Savage 42 with a Simmons fixed 4x... 22 Mag over .410 Dang thing grouped well at the range when I sighted it in and didn't let me down. It was a good shot. She stood up then went back down for a bite on the edge of a bean field, and I shot. Heard the thud and it was lights out. Just to make sure, since I'd never fired the .410 barrel, well..you know. It's not a benchrest rifle, it's not the old Savage 24, but it certainly served it's purpose and I'm glad I bought it.

There were 5 in my neighbors yard about 75 yards away hanging by his shed. Wife went over to ask if we could take care of them and he said he would tell his son to get some traps when he seen him next.

Be happy they come out of their holes. I have to sit in my yard with a frog gigging pitch to nail the moles in my yard.

Up to 4 this year, haven't gotten a single one with traps yet.

You should see the looks the neighbors give me when I'm staring at the ground holding a pitch in my hand, debating to myself whether the ground just moved or not...psyko

Twilight zone, I have shot 6 this year so far, have not seen one in last week, I am reading this thread and wife runs in the room saying "darn ground hogs by my garden" . I grabbed the Ruger .44 carbine and eased the back door open, 1 less Whistle pig on my property. I have shot 7 now and missed a few.

1 less groundhog is a good thing. When I was a kid you saw them out in open fields. The coyotes chased them in close to buildings. Had one that dug a hole under a 500 gallon fuel tank, another moved into the machinery shed. That machinery shed has scars from #4 shot. I did get them eventually. Caught the one form the fuel tank out in the open, 48 yard shot with 00 buck. One pellet caught him, that was all that was needed.

Man, I only wish I could shoot them and some of the other wildlife in my yard. One of the pitfalls of living in a neighborhood. How quiet are those pellet guns with the silencers?:)
