Lake Michigan and Salt Creek should have some spring steelhead moving in.
This is not for the faint of heart or Wal-Mart rod and reel combos.
Plenty of public access areas, some ponds and lakes, look for city parks.
    Good luck and tight lines.

I hadn’t thought about the pier. I was thinking some lake or pond. Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try. Thank you

Make sure to stab all the fish you catch, because this is the knife forum and we don't take kindly to rule breakers round here. J/K
From Merriville, head east on 30, just before SR 2, on your left, there's access to Salt Creek via a parking lot. Time it right and the steelies and Coho run right through that skinny water.
The piers at Michigan City are another solid spot to fish.
Google earth is your friend for finding local spots.
    Good luck.
