What you are talking about is NOT a "shotgun". It was not designed to fire a shotgun shell though it is capable of doing so via an adapter. That makes it a non-shotgun with a bore over .50. That makes it a DD. And as evidenced by the Striker12/Street Sweeper ruling yes, the "secretary" does rule on every shotgun...

Who said anything about using an adapter with 12gauge ammo? I was talking about making 26.5mm shotgun cartridges, which this weapon WAS designed to fire. Then it is the equivalent of an 8 gauge shotgun.

If you manufacture a 26.5mm cartridge that fires a munition then you will have created a DD. It doesn't matter that it may be similar to an 8-gauge shotgun, it is NOT a shotgun and there is zero likelihood that it would ever be classified as such. Do what you want, I don't care, but what I'm telling you is fact per the law, not my opinion. That launcher was designed to launch a flare, which is not a munition. As soon as you load it with a munition you cross over into DD territory.

I don't intend to load the rounds, I just wanted to know what to tell my buyer when I try to sell this launcher. I'd hate to give erroneous information. FYI, this particular "launcher" was actually designed to launch a munition (cs and rubber bullets for police crowd control) and NOT flares. It just happens to be in a flare caliber for ease of round manufacture.

Still does not matter, it was imported as a flare gun so no munition may be fired through it unless it is registered as a DD. It would not be allowed to be imported under any other way then a flare gun otherwise it would be prohibited under law for importation.

Century Arms just got in 1800 ( and are already sold out) 26.5 mm flare guns with steel receivers, steel barrels, fixed stocks and 19" barrels. These were sold as flare guns, so no paperwork. They come with a test target with a rabbit printed on it that was hit at 50 yards, so I know that in czechoslovakia, they must have shotgun rounds for it. These things are wicked cool, and are built like a tank.
Just buy a single shot shotgun of Russian manufacture.

File and sand off the grip area of the stock to match the profile of said wicked gun.

Add the pistol grip of your choice.

Cut the barrel to 18.25" or longer. Add a big ugly sight to the muzzle and maybe a Lyman #2 tang sight.

Tell people it is a Russian flare gun that also shoots 12 gauge.

You can buy 12 gauge flare rounds at West Marine so you can pretend it is a flare gun or use at family reunions.

You can also shoot the 2" mini shells in yours as well because I am sure that is what the gun you are talking about is probably using. Aguila makes them but why pay more for less?

How much was Century selling the gun for?
