I remember having GT, GTO, GTA, TA, GTX etc, and no one was upset, or confused. The car makers figured anyone that could afford one was smart enough to tell the difference.

That is a pretty chump lawsuit to file. About like the corporate chumps that bought Gibson suing pretty much anyone that makes an electric guitar.

It was a thing a while back. Some region where champagne originated from and named the same, tried to sue everyone for calling their sparkling wine Champagne. The big quote for their case was "it can't be called champagne unless it comes from the champagne region". Like European wine drinkers needed to provided more evidence of their wine snobbery. :-)
This is really a bad example. Americans do not care enough about their food. Champagne only comes from Champagne France. Parmesan cheese only comes from Parma Italy (and couple of nearby areas) something from anywhere else is something else. A Daniel Defense upper only comes from DD, you can get an upper from others but they are not a DD upper.

Funny thing about the “wine snobbery” is American wines are now as good or better than European wines and Americans are pretty snobby about that but like my bourbons if one does not have taste the top shelf is wasted on them.

The other oddity is that if one wants to see “snobbery” at a high level just check out the hipsters at breweries and distilleries. It is not limited to wealthy wine drinkers…

Not that they looked similar- that the Jeep slotted grill was trademarked.
Jeep also sued Roxor. I posted about it back a while.
